What is mentoring?
Product people are faced with challenges and make many decisions every moment of every day.  The mentors seek to provide the education, tools, and advice, to empower mentees in better product and career decision making.

Who can be a mentor?
Our mentors are successful product managers and executives with great depth and range of experience. They work with the The Product Mentor because they want to give back to the product community. They’re passionate about product management and find it exciting and fulfilling to work with up-and-coming product people from around the world.

Who can be a mentee?
Any product person or aspiring product person can sign-up to be a mentee in the program.  The program is very competitive and placement within an upcoming Session is contingent on mentor and mentee interviews and pairing.

What is a Session?
A Session is a 6-month commitment over which time mentors and mentees chat regularly and share and learn with the larger product communities.

What happens at the end of a Session?
At the conclusion of a Session, participants are invited to share their experiences and provide program feedback.  Select mentors and mentees will also receive special recognition.  While the end of a Session marks the end of the formal relationship between mentor and mentee, each pair can mutually agree to continue beyond The Product Mentor.

What level of participation is expected of mentors?
  • Each mentor is expected to meet with their mentee at least one hour every week over the course of the Session and keep 1-on-1 sessions confidential.  The exact schedule and frequency (more frequent meetings are encouraged) is ironed out between mentor and mentee.
  • Mentors will also provide monthly progress updates to the Session organizer.
  • Additionally, each mentor will also lead a Google Hangout OnAir lesson with Session mentors and mentees attending and participating.  Note:  These lessons are made available on YouTube to the participants and the larger product community.

What level of participation is expected of mentees?
  • Mentees will meet with their mentors on their mutually agreed upon schedule.
  • They are expected to participate in all OnAir Lessons and Session activities.
  • Monthly progress updates (incl. outcomes, challenges, questions) will be sent to the Session organizer.
  • Additionally, each mentee is expected to write an article teaching others a product management lesson they learned within the Session.

How are mentor and mentee paired?
Both mentors and mentees are interviewed to determine best matches based on experience, industry, goals, location, and several other characteristics.

I didn't get to be a mentor for the current session.  How can I still be involved?
All mentor lead lessons are live streamed and viewable by anyone on our YouTube Channel, along with all prior lessons. Subscribe to not miss out.

I signed up to be a mentee awhile ago.  How much longer do I have to wait?
The turnout for The Product Mentor has been amazing beyond all expectations!  As a result, we have a long waitlist (700+ potential mentees) for product mentees.  Please be patient as we continue to pair mentors and mentees and ready for the next Session.
